Description
For auction is HAROLD LAND's "West Coast Blues" on Jazzland JLP 20 MONO, DG, 1960. With Barry Harris, Wes Montgomery, Sam Jones, Louis Hayes, Joe Gordon.
SOUND: VG+
It has been machine-cleaned and I listened to both sides completely. There is one issue. A slight warp on the edge of the record causes the stylus to rise-and-fall during the first 60 seconds of side 1. It doesn't cause a skip or even a "tick." It does produce a soft "whoosh" or "thump" underneath the playback. This is the best way I can describe it. It is so innocuous, I had to play it back several times to make sure. On side 2, the "whoosh" only lasts 30 seconds, tops. That said, the effect on the playback in minimal. Unfortunate, because the rest of the record is outstanding in every way, completely brilliant sound! I'm giving it a VG+ grade for sound. If not for the warp, it would be NM.
VINYL: VG+
Visually, the vinyl is glossy, clean and looks almost new. Under bright, direct, light I found one, and only one, hairline mark, which is superficial and doesn't affect playback. The one caveat is the slight warp along the lip of the record. You can see the stylus float up-and-down in the first minute or so of the record. Affects the playback slightly, as described above. It is difficult to see the warp with the naked eye. Orange Jazzland labels with deep-grooves are very clean. Again, my overall grade is VG+ because of the slight warp. Otherwise it would be NM.
COVER: VG+ or better
The cover is excellent, with solid edges and spine, with minimal wear. The upper right corner is starting to fray and split a tiny bit. The other corners are nice, each with a tiny amount of routine wear. Front and back covers are clean and unmarked, with only minimal, routine aging. The back has a "promo" stamp.
The photos are of the exact record up for bids. Look before you bid, ask if you want any additional info or pics.
A rare record! The single flaw is negligible visually and sound-wise. No reserve, and a great value opening at $20.
Every record I auction has been cleaned on a Nitty Gritty vacuum/cleaner. I played every record to determine if there are static, tics, pops, hisses, what have you. I endeavor to thoroughly report any extraneous audio "noise" or problems of any significance. Other than that, I will report on the general condition of each record, both vinyl and jacket, according to Goldmine standards, to the best of my ability.
Every record is put into a new, clean sleeve insert. In the case of an interesting original sleeve insert, I'll include that in the sale.
