Rare original 70's triple boxset w/book from instrument builder Harry Partch, this is the special limited edition of his opus magnum "Delusion of the Fury" coming with a 3rd bonus LP (normally this was a 2-LP set).

Some info on the release:  Very rare original issue, released in Usa sometime in the 70's and released by Columbia Records. This is the very rare version of this release as a limited edition, coming with a bonus 3rd LP in which the composer introduces and comments on the 27 unique instruments built by him during a lifetime of creating his own musical universe. This harder-to-find bonus record is just as beautiful as the other 2 lps (if not more so), and is an invaluable document in it's own right both as a resource on Partch's theories and a collection of otherworldly experimental sounds from the mind of an American genius. Also included is a high quality booklet with colorful photographs and descriptions of each instrument, a supplement to the bonus lp making this all in all a top-notch package (it's on the TAS list). As Harry Partch commented: "I have never been involved with the development of modern or avant-garde music. I have always been a loner. There is nothing like my world in the modern world that i know of". Subtitled "A Ritual of Dream And Delusion". Ensemble of unique instruments conducted by Danlee Mitchell and supervised by the composer.

Harry Partch's Delusion of the Fury was premiered in January 1969 at the Pasadena Art Museum in California. Written for six actors, four singers, and a large ensemble of instruments created by the composer, the piece is one of the best examples of Partch's concept of 'corporeality,' or 'total theater,' integrating music, dance, stagecraft, and ritual. "Delusion of the Fury ... illustrates Partch's uncanny ability to synthesize separate ideas, in this case a Japanese tale juxtaposed with an African one. Synthesis such as this can be seen in many other Partch works as metaphors for reaching out for personal community. While he had not seen satisfactory productions of most of his previous theatrical works due to inappropriate conceptual interpretation on the part of the others, or economic constraints, the 1969 production of Delusion did fulfill many of Partch's hopes and expectations."

From the late 1930s onward, after living as a transient hobo, Harry Partch developed instruments based on his own revolutionary tuning theories (considered the first in the field since Pythagoras). He composed in isolation within the musical universe he created, but he blazed the same trails as Alois Haba, Julian Carrillo, Ivan Wyschnegradsky, and Charles Ives, drew from percussive eastern music such as gamelan, American folk, Native American, and African music, Hebrew and Christian hymns, and "lumber yards and junk shops," and would become influential to John Cage, Steve Reich, Lou Harrison, La Monte Young, Ben Johnston, Easley Blackwood, Glenn Branca, Alvin Lucier, Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, John Eaton, James Tenney, Rhys Chatham, Tony Conrad, and others from the avant garde; his instruments relate to the 'Structures Sonores' of Bernard and Francois Baschet and the sound sculptures and homemade instruments of Harry Bertoia, Max Neuhaus, Z'ev, Donald Knaack, Paul Panhuysen, and Bill Fontana. Some of his invented and self-built instruments include the Zymo-Xyl, Crychord, Surrogate Kithara, Chromelodeon II, Koto, Mazda Marimba, Cloud-Chamber Bowls, Diamond Marimba, Kithara I+II, Bloboy, Spoils of War, Harmonic Cannon I, Marimba Eroica, Castor and Pollux, Adapted Guitar II, Drone Devils, Gubagubi, Blue Rainbow, Gourd Tree, and Cone Gongs. Condition: Vinyl and cover lie in very good++ condition, Vinyls look clean and plays nicely all along, while the box lies in great shape, with the exception of a split at the opening and 2 split corners on the top and bottom right (see picture).
