Hates - No Talk In The Eighties ep Faceless Records 1979
Flex discography described this one as "Real rough sounding for that time (1979), close to hardcore. Great unusual bass lines. Good melodic punk that's just a little bit different". I have had this single for many years, and I did not remember it making a very big impression on me in the past, but I just ripped it and I have to say that I have seen the light. This is definitely punk rock but you can hear the beginnings of hardcore in there, in a very similar vein as the Middle Class "Out of Vogue" ep ( consider by many to be the first hardcore single) that was released a year earlier in 1978.Middle Class was a bit faster then the Hates, and they by no way sound identical, but both singles share that hardcore edge. Check it out.
