Description
This is the great debut prog/psych LP from Hawkwind. It's a self-titled album and was released on the UK Liberty label in 1970. The catalogue no. is LBS 83348. It's a stereo recording. In my opinion it's one of the finest prog/psych LP's of all time and I think it's still Hawkwind's best. It's got everything and still sounds fresh today. This one includes the very rare first blue Liberty label.
OUTER SLEEVE - The gatefold sleeve is in overall fine condition with some minor ring wear on the rear of the sleeve. The top and bottom edges are intact, showing minor wear and the spine is in fine condition with minimal wear. Clear tape has been fixed to the closed and open edges of the sleeve but this is almost invisible and does not detract from the overall quality of the sleeve. There is no wording along the spine. It states on the rear of the sleeve Produced by Dick Taylor and Hawkwind - Engineer, Barry Ainsworth - Sleeve design, Clearwater Conceptions - Artist, Arthur Rhodes - Printed and made by E. J. Day Ltd.'. I've graded the sleeve as Ex--.
INNER SLEEVE - A white diecut paper bag type with polythene liner. It states on one side - 'PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS...ETC - British Patent No. 800513 & 973939'. I've garded the inner bag as Ex--.
RECORD - The record itself looks very clean although there is some definite surface noise throughout (audible in quiet passages and between tracks) and the occasional pop and click. There are definitely no jumps on any of the tracks. The labels are in fine condition and there are some spindle marks. There is no damage to the labels on either side. The matrix numbers on the run-off grooves are as follows - side one - LBS 83348 A//1 11 2 - side two - LBS 83348 B//1 11 1 which I guess means that this is a first pressing. I have graded the record as VG++ and I believe that this is very fair. The winner of this auction will not be disappointed.
