In Search of Space strengthened Hawkwind's science fiction-type brand of progressive rock, gaining bass player Dave Anderson and galactic poet extraordinaire Rob Calvert, while losing John Harrison at the same time.
The album opens with the mind-numbing galactic haze of "You Shouldn't Do That," a spooky little 15-minute excursion that warps, throbs, and swirls with Dik Mik's "audio generator" and the steady drum pace of Terry Ollis.
Then comes the ominous whispering of the title, set to the pulsating waves of Dave Brock's guitar and Turner's alto sax, with Dettmar's synth work laying the foundation.
Wonderfully setting the tone, "You Shouldn't Do That"'s improvisational looseness and rhythmic fusion smoothly open up the album into the realm of Hawkwind.
The peculiarity never ceases, as "You Know You're Only Dreaming" and "We Took the Wrong Steps Years Ago" delves even deeper into obscurity, sometimes emanating with the familiar jangle of the guitar which then has its acquaintance overshadowed by the waft of the keyboard.
Just as "Master of the Universe" chugs and rolls with a foreboding rhythm, "Adjust Me" retaliates with its moaning verse and tonal fluctuations fading into oblivion.
The groundbreaking sound which Hawkwind achieved on In Search of Space helped to open up a whole new avenue of progressive rock

This auction is for the incredibly hard to find classic Hawkwind lp issued in 1971. This is a bit special really as the condition of this album is in one word "fabulous". This will be an upgrade for most discerning collectors and does not show up very often in this collectible investment grade condition!!

SO HARD TO FIND THIS ALBUM IN THIS FANTASTIC CONDITION. THIS WILL BE AN UPGRADE FOR MOST SERIOUS COLLECTORS. IT IS VERY HARD THESE DAYS TO STILL FIND THIS GEM IN THIS SMASHING CONDITION. IT ILL BE A LONG TIME BEFORE THIS TURNS UP AGAIN IN THIS SPLENDID CONDITION WITH AGAIN MORE TAKERS THAN EVER BEFORE. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT INVESTMENT PIECE.

Vinyl: EX++ .  Probably  barely played. Audio is A++ and this vinyl sounds out of this world, a majestic album that went on to be an absolute classic. The audio has beautiful separation and there is no background noise. I played this twice in full and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was even tempted to keep this as it will be very hard to find this again, it is indeed mega rare now in this time warp condition. Take a look at the labels and the spindle hole which still has vinyl debris attached from the pressing plant!! It sits totally flat on the turntable. NO hairlines, NO marks etc. even under a very strong light this looks splendid without any blemish. Needless to say NO jumps, clicks or ticks. This will be a fantastic upgrade for most long time collectors!!

Gatefold Gimmix Sleeve: EX.  Fantastic looked after sleeve without any wear or damage.  The lightest of bottom edge storage wear stop from grading full NM. This beauty has been looked after with great care. You do not find them like this these days. The pictures tell all!!! There are not even any creases and no edge wear. The envelope flaps are fully intact and only the bottom flap has a tiny crease. Even the spine retains all original splendour and is fully legible. The opening must rate the crispest I have ever seen for this album. No writing, no marks , the best I have ever come across!! This is the ultimate upgrade copy!!

More detailed description Vinyl: The vinyl looks superb and has retained its original high sheen with barely a mark to be seen. It has clearly been very well cared for and rarely played. Under bright light, I could not see anything on side two and just a couple of the finest, feint marks on side one. I have played the entire record and it sounds fantastic. I was listening intently through headphones and I heard an occasional random click and three of the tiniest clicks (barely audible and only in the left channel) during a quiet section at the end of 'You shouldn't do that' (but these were so quiet that I doubt most listeners would even notice them) and five very quiet clicks at the start of 'Master of the Universe'. And that is all !!!  There are lots of very quiet sections on this album and I doubt that it is possible to find a first pressing that genuinely plays mint all the way through, but this has barely been played and is easily the best I've heard. However, for the sake of completeness I would state that I heard some soft background noise in the quiet parts and the run-ins, the side two run-out, and the fades, silent grooves and intros. But there is absolutely nothing loud or intrusive anywhere. This is a superb example and was a real pleasure to listen to. I would have no hesitation giving both sides a play-grading of at least Excellent (Ex) and would say that both sides, especially side one, are probably verging on Excellent plus (Ex+).

Labels: Both labels look superb with absolutely no signs of damage, writing, stickers etc and just one light spindle trace, suggesting that the record has barely been  played.
Sleeve: The sleeve is notoriously easy to damage, with the edges of the die-cut opening being very susceptible to wear, creasing and tearing. This one is as near to perfect as I have ever seen. The die-cut remains exceptionally crisp and free from damage with no tears and just one very small crease/wrinkle at the end of one of the points. In the first of the close-up pictures of the die-cut edges it is the point nearest the camera. It cannot even really be called a 'crease', because, although it can just about be seen, it does not affect the the physical integrity of the card in any way. It is entirely superficial and so I would probably refer to it more accurately as 'wrinkle' rather than a 'crease'. And this one, tiny blemish is the only flaw on the die-cut edges. The surfaces are all clean and free from any marks or damage with just some minor creases near the spines. This is without doubt the best one I've ever seen. It is hard to believe that it is 43 years old! Edge wear: The two side spines are solid and firm with some minor creases and light storage wear, more so towards the corners. The text is all 100% readable. Corner wear: There is light storage wear at the corners Inner sleeve: The original UA - liberty inner advertising sleeve which has a seam split to the bottom. This inner is a rarity in its own right! Log book: The log book looks like it has never even been touched. The paper has slightly darkened from age around the edges but other than this it looks like new, with no creases, tears or damage and not even any signs of handling.

This is a unique investment opportunity!!! Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day. Get this while you still can. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.

Important : International postage will be registered and insured. Postage will be according to Royal Mail rates. Postage is NOT a money spinning exercise for me. Postage to Russia and Italy strictly registered with an extra fee for insurance, please wait for my invoice. Any item selling over £20.00 will be registered and recorded with an additional Royal Mail fee. Please wait for my invoice. Fees are actual Royal Mail ones.

Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly!  PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST,  if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one!  I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem!  This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy! Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 * rating is effectively detrimental to a seller's rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees  and lower priority in the bidlists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all. I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again. Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem.  Thanks again!!

This an excellent investment opportunity!!! Any questions please ask me and I will try to answer soon.
