Machined First UK press matrices: A-1U B-1U the earliest possible issue and according to the mother stampers this copy is one of the very first issued in the first few days. It comes with the very elusive "Logbook" which was only ever included with the first batch of albums issued. ORIGINAL UK UNITED ARTISTS (UAG 29202) FIRST PRESSING (October 1971) OF HAWKWIND'S SPACE/PROG MASTERPIECE "In Search Of Space" IN EXCELLENT CONDITION  AND DELIVERING BEAUTIFULLY CLEAN, NEAR SILENT AUDIO THROUGHOUT - WHICH IS INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO FIND AS THE LP HAS MANY VERY QUIET MOMENTS WHICH ARE COMMONLY SPOILT BY EXCESSIVE SURFACE NOISE - BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST AND CLEANEST SOUNDING COPIES I HAVE HEARD IN A WHILE  - FANTASTIC COPY AND THEY REALLY DON'T COME MUCH BETTER , MOST COPIES HAVING BEEN PLAYED TO DEATH AND NOT LOOKED AFTER. THIS BEAUTY HAD A VERY CAREFUL OWNER WHO RESPECTED HIS VINYL.

In Search of Space strengthened Hawkwind's science fiction-type brand of progressive rock, gaining bass player Dave Anderson and galactic poet extraordinaire Rob Calvert, while losing John Harrison at the same time. 
The album opens with the mind-numbing galactic haze of "You Shouldn't Do That," a spooky little 15-minute excursion that warps, throbs, and swirls with Dik Mik's "audio generator" and the steady drum pace of Terry Ollis. 
Then comes the ominous whispering of the title, set to the pulsating waves of Dave Brock's guitar and Turner's alto sax, with Dettmar's synth work laying the foundation. 
Wonderfully setting the tone, "You Shouldn't Do That"'s improvisational looseness and rhythmic fusion smoothly open up the album into the realm of Hawkwind. 
The peculiarity never ceases, as "You Know You're Only Dreaming" and "We Took the Wrong Steps Years Ago" delves even deeper into obscurity, sometimes emanating with the familiar jangle of the guitar which then has its acquaintance overshadowed by the waft of the keyboard. 
Just as "Master of the Universe" chugs and rolls with a foreboding rhythm, "Adjust Me" retaliates with its moaning verse and tonal fluctuations fading into oblivion. 
The groundbreaking sound which Hawkwind achieved on In Search of Space helped to open up a whole new avenue of progressive rock.

 Gatefold GIMMIX Sleeve:  EX+ to NM.  The classic UK 1st Press Fold-Out Sleeve is  in STUNNING condition with  NO Tears (in my experience 99% of these sleeves have tears as the sharp angles are very prone to accidental, rushed bends, tears etc.) , NO seam splits, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!!  It is blemish free!!! Even the "tuck in" tab has no wear. It has virtually NONE of the edge and corner wear commonly associated with this record. The spine is something I have never yet seen, it is totally unworn which is unheard of for this vulnerable matt black sleeve. All writing is fully legible and looks as new!! The edges on the diecut are still razor sharp. Just one tiny corner crease to the bottom left die cut  as seen on the pics. It folds out perfect to reveal the awesome 22 page 'Log Book', again massively rare for this LP. It is the first press grey/blue one which is barely ever seen at all. There was also a later batch of matt black printed booklets which are also very rare but strictly speaking not the first batch or press. Only the 1st press came with this Log book, and very, very few are left in existence today!!  The Log Book is EX although there is a piece of tape to strengthen the spine and I photographed a couple of pages at random. The Outer Sleeve grades as EX++ at the very least with all tabs and corners intact (in 95% of cases found torn missing etc.!!!! A sensational sleeve.

The LP Tri-folds out to reveal to reveal printed inner lyrics ! Please check out my feedback and bid with confidence as this is a no reserve auction with a very low starting price!  Don't miss this one as the Original UK Stereo 1st Press of this seminal LP rarely turns up nowadays  in this condition(and NEVER EVER complete!) A  great gatefold sleeve which being matt is always susceptible to wear. This copy is in great shape with a fully 100% legible spine, it has to be seen in the flesh to be appreciated to its full extent. Only the very lightest of edge wear. No splits or tears or creases.

Vinyl: EX++.  Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen and are practically unmarked and shine like new. There are no marks or hairlines and this beauty has barely been played at all. it has always been stored away in a protective polylined sleeve in a purpose built record storage unit and kept at the ideal temperature for many decades. This album is part of an important early seventies prog collection which I acquired from a serious collector who appreciated well crafted music. More LP's will be auctioned in weeks to come.
 Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps, no clicks or pops and barely any surface noise (really hardly anything worth a mention and to be incredibly picky, maybe just a touch on the run-ins). This is a beautifully clean pressing (and I must emphasise again how difficult it is to find a copy which plays this well). The whole LP sounds absolutely stunning and plays to an extremely high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong EX++ for audio  - great copy!! Of course, NO skips, NO jumps, NO ticks. This will be an upgrade for most experienced collectors and is warmly recommended to my regular buyers.
