Description
Very nice copy of the rare original 1941 first pressing of Hazel Scott's Swinging the Classics album on Decca 3-78rpm set 212. Wonderful piano solos jazzing up the classics, like Rachmaninoff, Bach, Chopin, Etc. This was one of the great statements of that swing-era attempt to incorporate "art" music into their repertoire. A really unique and lovely record. This copy is on the original maroon Decca labels, with better sound than the more common later pressing. All three discs are in very nice condition, with some slight marks and surface scuffing, but really not bad at all. I'm calling the VG+ but really they are close to EX. Some marks, as I say, but they don't affect the play much at all. They play crisply and clearly and just beautifully, with minimal background noise. The cover has a bit of general shelfwear, mainly at the edges and right corners, and some fraying at the spine, which is tearing along the fold on the back. The binding is still strong. All in all still a nice cover if a little worn. Really a nice playing original copy.
