Original 1970 Canada press of LP on Goodgroove label (#GS-7001)
HEADS OF OUR TIME titled "The Subtle Art Of Self Destruction"
i think this was reissued later in the same year in the U.S.A. by Audio Fidelity
CONDITION:
foil cover: VG++ to Excellent
lite shelf wear/soiling ~ tiny wear/fray to edges & corners ~ back has litely creased corner
2 tiny "pressure marks" to foil front ( & foil shows very lite minor ring,too)
small bb drill upper right corner ~ please see pix
vinyl: VG++ to Excellent
just a couple of small minor lite marks per side & several very lite hairlines/needlemarks ~ all superficial
plays with just several odd occasional soft lite clicks & just a touch of occasional
lite low level surface noise/soft surface crackle in several spots ~ low level ~ nothing that competes
PERSONNEL:
credited to Jay Jackson & Ric Robertson, personnel were apparently part of the renown Canadian R&B funk group The Majestics
(Shawne and Jay Jackson vocalists & Eric Robertson, keyboard player) who were attempting to segue from R&B into the psychedelic field,
perhaps influenced by other contemporary sounds of that time such as the Beatles' "Strawberry Fields " (or the Beach Boys "Good Vibrations")
SELECTIONS:
musically, you can almost expect anything from this ~ seen it described on the internet this way:
the album could serve as a primer for studio psych effects - it was all here including waves of fuzz guitar, sitar, backward tapes, channel panning, tons of sound effects and hysterical over-the-top belly button gazing insight such as that found on 'W.O.R.D.S' ("a burning desire for a woman with a blank look on her face, who will assist you in the subtle art of self destruction"). These guys just didn't waste a single trick in pulling the album together. Highlights included the blazing FUZZED guitar opening instrumental 'Airhed' and the weirdest cover of 'Wichita Lineman' you'll ever hear (with SITAR). Less impressive, but still worth hearing were a couple of the covers, including 'Mercy, Mercy, Mercy' which harkened back to their Majestics days, a ''heavy-ed up' 'With a Little Help from My Friends' and one of the stranger Hendrix covers you'll likely ever hear - 'Crosstown Traffic'.
