This auction is for two classic rare sides on the Dial label from 1946, the dawn of modern jazz and landmark recordings that are scarce because of their relative obscurity and low sales at the time of their release, and their primarily being sold to musicians or people in the know in the jazz community. For this reason they're usually found in rather used condition, when they're found at all. In all my years, this is the first time I've had nice copies from this label or even seen them up close! They are first editions, which is important, because the label often issued second pressings with the same catalogue number, but with different tracks or different takes from the same sessions, possibly because the masters had expired or just personal preference. It was a small label, but the output was amazing and for 1946 the fidelity and quality of the pressings was like a window into the future! Usually the reissues of these bely the original sound of the songs, as they are often taken from stock copies like these, which unfortunately often weren't even in as good of condition as these remarkable examples. That's why I've taken it upon myself to archive and carefully remaster these rare tracks, so they can be preserved and so you can hear what you're getting. Truly remarkable! 
From a recent purchase of archived records from the old KWK AM St Louis radio station record catalogue of 78's. Very Hot jazz from 1946 on the Dial label with an added bonus of Miles Davis on the Parker side as well! Great condition, both in EX to VG+ with no scratches, great gloss and only some very faint and sparse paper scuff that is inaudible. The grooves don't appear to have any greying or much play at all, amazing condition overall, as these were well kept ideally in a sealed case in heavy green card stock covers, some signs of light play, as there are a few very faint spindle traces on the clean labels. I was kind of blown away by the fidelity of this track from 1946, as it sounded so modern in every way from the outstanding frequency response from the hi-fi pressing on the old shellac and the arrangements, tone and engineering… this sounds better than anything the major labels were doing at this time, with a fraction of the budget and recording gear!
 I've included an audio sample in HD, unfiltered from the original disc of the Charlie Parker - Bird Lore, using the proper stylus after a careful cleaning.  I mastered it at full frequency because you rarely ever hear the complete high end information in these pressings on the reissues, as engineers tend to roll off the high end of anything from the 40's, even though the high end  EQ is remarkable given the age and era or recording techniques on this small label! It's sad that the masters of these are usually missing, or in poor condition, and that these shellac records are indeed the best examples of these recordings, sounding better than most reissues, save for a little surface noise, the frequency response and fidelity is superior, sounding better than the version on youtube that was taken from a CD remaster, aside from the surface noise on this one, which isn't a big deal in my opinion.
