Description
VG/+ 78 from 1930, full HD audio sample. Some great bluesy jazz vocal sides that sound nearly as fresh as the day they were pressed.
A recent purchase of archived records from the old KWK AM St Louis radio station record catalogue. Very Hot jazz from 1930 on the Victor label! Great condition, VG/VG+ with no scratches, great gloss and only some fine scuff from storage, inaudible with these amazing deep, hot, grooves. The grooves don't appear to have any greying or much play at all, amazing condition overall for some truly excellent performed and recorded bluesy jazz, as these were well kept in an ideal sealed case in heavy green card stock covers, very little signs of light play, hard to even see any spindle traces on the clean labels. There is a degree of surface noise consistent with the sound of these early shellacs, as artifacts inherent in the pressing and the somewhat primitive media. This is near to the sound of a typical mass produced shellac record fresh off the presses in 1930!
I've included an audio sample in HD, unfiltered from the actual disc on side A, using the proper stylus after a careful cleaning. I mastered it at near full frequency because you rarely ever hear the complete high end information in these pressings on the reissues, as engineers tend to roll off the high end of anything from the 30's, even though the high end fidelity and clarity is often pretty good, given the era and recording techniques! It's sad that the masters of these are usually missing, or in unusable... making these records the best examples of these recordings. The frequency response and fidelity is pretty incredible! There is some amount surface noise audible that is inherent in the pressing as record fidelity was still in its' infancy. I've carefully cleaned this and the sound is still amazing, given the era and the nice condition ...sounding better than the version on youtube, taken from a CD remaster. Well worth having this great copy of the original shellac!
This great early jazz collectible would have been bought by a serious music fan or musician at the time. That's why these early tracks and other serious jazz labels are so hard to find and are so desirable! I have uploaded side A in HD, so you can hear it in CD quality, streaming audio. Happy listening!
