Description
On offer is a 1964 LP by HEINZ called TRIBUTE TO EDDIE on DECCA, catalogue number LK 4599.
An album with, as the title suggests, lots of Eddie Cochran covers, from ex-Tornados bassist Heinz Burt, groomed for solo stardom by his besotted producer JOE MEEK (the subject of the 2008 film, Telstar: The Joe Meek Story). Writes Meek in his sleeve-notes: “When we decided to make this LP. we both agreed that it must be aimed at the teenage market - the beat market with Heinz giving his all to every individual performance.” The album is also notable as an early showcase for future Deep Purple guitarist RITCHIE BLACKMORE, who twangs in proto-metal style on ‘Just Like Eddie’, ‘Summertime Blues’ etc.
This grades just less than EXCELLENT, and something above VERY GOOD, according to the Record Collector:
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
None of the scratches seem that deep, and the superb audio is only blemished by the odd pop and click, thanks to the indestructible 170g vinyl stock of the early to mid-60s. Having said that, it skipped once on playback (‘Come On and Dance’, first track, side 2), though this might be rectified by a clean.
Naturally, there is moderate spinde-wear on the UNBOXED RED DECCA LABELS. The LAMINATE front cover is in excellent condition, with one little crease to the bottom right corner. The back of the flipback sleeve shows general wear and grubbiness. A MONO original.
