Description
HERE is an intensely hip, in-your-face, outstanding Hot Jazz record from 1929: "HELLO LOLA" and "ONE HOUR" by the MOUND CITY BLUES BLOWERS, an all-star band led by the incredibly bold RED McKENZIE. Feast your eyes on this personnel:
RED McKENZIE (comb & tissue), GLENN MILLER (trombone), PEE WEE RUSSELL (clarinet), COLEMAN HAWKINS (tenor sax), EDDIE CONDON (banjo), JACK BLAND (guitar), POPS FOSTER (bass), GENE KRUPA (drums)
For starters, Red takes a back seat to NONE of these carnivores. He plays his comb and tissue with such musical invention and manly force, you just accept him as one of the guys. EVERYBODY is outstanding: Hawkins plays two blistering hot choruses on "Lola" and actually invents the tenor sax ballad on "One Hour." Pee Wee is at his usual high peak of inventiveness; Glenn Miller floors us all with his hot trombone on "Lola," playing for his very life after following Hawkins! This record is full of delights.
This original 1929 "Hot Dance" "Scroll" Victor V-38100 is in clean EE- condition. A little grainy, very slight wear.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!
