What you are looking at is the rare, import only Vinyl soundtrack pressing of the 1986 Gerard Depardieu film "Police." Gold seal promo stamped. The jacket is VG + The Album is Mint. This is NOT parts of the symphony along with other unrelated music, this is Gorecki's Symphony No 3 in its entirety. Side A contains Movement 1 while Side B consists of Movements 2 and 3. That is all! The film used sections of the symphony almost as a silent narrative so the symphony comprises the soundtrack in its entirety a little known fact as the LP soundtrack is so difficult to find. The soprano is Stefania Woytowicz, the same as the Polish pressing. The only difference is the conductor being French born Ernest Bour as opposed to Jerry Katlewicz. This The Holy Grail of modern classical music aside from the limited Polish pressing, this French Soundtrack is the elusive German vinyl pressing. The only other to exist. Having owned both, while I found the packaging of the Polish pressing more desirable the actual vinyl and sound of this pressing I find superior. Either way you are getting Gorecki's achingly haunting symphony on the richness of vinyl. Price represents a very slight increase on what I paid for LP including shipping. The Nonsuch Record Label released this symphony on CD in the 90's with soprano Dawn Upshaw. It went on to become the best selling post modern classical recording ever. Vinyl collectors have long sought out any version of this symphony on LP to great disappointment as none was ever released in the States. This is your chance to own a truly rare classic LP. Listening to this work on the format those souls that inspired it would have had to, having the vinyl from the land of the composer is a magnificently transcendent experience not to be had by the CD. The Symphony No. 3, Op. 36, also known as the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs (Polish: Symfonia pie?ni ?a?osnych), is a symphony in three movements composed by Henryk Górecki in Katowice, Poland, between October and December 1976. The work is indicative of the transition between Górecki's dissonant earlier manner and his more tonal later style. It was premièred on 4 April 1977, at the Royan International Festival, with Stefania Woytowicz as soprano and Ernest Bour as conductor.[1]

A solo soprano sings a different Polish text in each of the three movements. The first is a 15th-century Polish lament of Mary, mother of Jesus, the second a message written on the wall of a Gestapo cell during World War II, and the third a Silesian folk song of a mother searching for her son killed in the Silesian uprisings.[2] The first and third movements are written from the perspective of a parent who has lost a child, and the second movement from that of a child separated from a parent. The dominant themes of the symphony are motherhood and separation through war.

Until 1992, Górecki was known only to connoisseurs, primarily as one of several composers responsible for the postwar Polish music renaissance.[3] That year, Elektra-Nonesuch released a recording of the 15-year-old symphony that topped the classical charts in Britain and the United States. To date, it has sold more than a million copies, vastly exceeding the expected lifetime sales of a typical symphonic recording by a 20th-century composer.

The word "rare" is often overused on ebay. I challenge you to try and find anything, anywhere on vinyl by Henryk Gorecki and then you will understand how absolutely rare this item is.
