Crossings is the second installment in Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi trilogy, recorded in 1972 with the Sextet performing under Swahili stage names. It was Hancock's final album for Warner Bros. before his move to Columbia for Sextant. The record blends jazz, funk, and electronic texture, with Patrick Gleeson's Moog and Mellotron work layered over the group's acoustic and electric interplay across three extended pieces: "Sleeping Giant" on Side One and "Quasar" / "Water Torture" on Side Two.

This is an original US first pressing on Warner Bros. Records, BS 2617, on the correct olive-green WB label with orange and blue shield logo used for this catalog era.

Gatefold cover features Robert Springett's painting depicting a Haitian boat crossing, tying visually into the album's title and themes. Label is the correct olive-green Warner Bros. design with orange and blue WB shield for this pressing era.

Also present: a Warner/Reprise "Loss Leaders" mail-order sampler flyer used as the inner sleeve — a genuine period promotional piece advertising the label's budget-priced various-artist sampler LPs (Big Ball, Schlagers!, Songbook, Record Show, Hot Platters, Looney Tunes), a nice authenticating extra from the era.
