Some say John Ogdon could have been one of the world’s finest pianists had schizophrenia in later life not robbed his sensibilities.

This release certainly pays tribute to his talent, recorded during his peak years, here with Bernard Herrmann at baton over the LPO playing Cyril Scott’s PIANO CONCERTO No. 2.

Also here, the poem for piano and orchestra, EARLY ONE MORNING, based on the traditional song, revised for one piano instead of two in 1962, and the only recording of the fine piece to this day.

Cover of this copy is still within its shrink-wrap; HNH audiophile pressing within is near mint.
