Crass Records 1986 LP

What sets this one apart from the other records you can find for sale on the Internet is that it's a copy sent by Rick O'Che for review in SOUNDS. Aside from the regular insert it comes with a promo one sheet and a letter to SOUNDS editor signed by Rick.

Here's some internet found info on the band:

Hit Parade was basically a one man anarchist band, the brainchild of P. Checkoff (aka Rik O’che) a member of the Anarchist Collective in Belfast. Being a left-wing socialist Checkoff’s songs were highly political by nature and concentrated on life in N. Ireland. Subject matter ranged from the evils of television to H Blocks; the RUC to housing problems, and of course unemployment. “I wanted to make people aware that there’s more than a tribal sectarian war here, there are a lot of problems. It’s a multi-problematic place" stated Checkoff shortly after the release of the Nick Nack Paddy Wack album in 1986.

Unsurprisingly, Hit Parade signed to the Crass label. Hit Parade produced electronic music made up of samples, loops and noises and were helped out in the studio by the likes of Eve Libertine, Penny Rimbaud, Jane Gregory and Flux Of Pink Indians and a host of other musicians, Checkoff said at the time “All the structure of the songs is done by me here in Belfast. But when I go into the studio in London it becomes more of a collected effort with different people putting in ideas.” The first release was the Bad News EP in ‘82. This was followed by the Plastic Culture 12” single in ‘84 and finally by the Nick Nack Paddy Wack album. The album was recorded in ‘84 but due to the financial crisis Crass were in at that time, it wasn’t released until ‘86. Penny Rimbaud and Paul Ellis produced the album.

Upon the release of the E.P. Bad News, an electro-rap rant on such evils as television, H Blocks, the RUC and so on the Crass label in 1982, copies were seized by Special Branch at retail outlets, along with everything else on the Crass independent label, it managed to reach No.4 in the independent charts.

Before the album was released, Channel 4 produced and screened a TV documentary on the health of women in N. Ireland. The documentary was called ‘Under The Health Surface’ and the programmes soundtrack featured the music of Hit Parade, which can be found on the Nick Nack LP in slightly different forms.

For whatever reason eBay thinks that I live in the USA and applies my local postage rate (which is now set at a maximum of $4.00) to the American bidders and then charges international postage for Japanese bidders. I live in Tokyo and eBay makes it impossible for me to apply correct rates to correct regions of the world. I cannot send records abroad for $4. You live in the US = you have to pay for Air Mail or EMS.

Each additional item is $3.50 for a 7"/tape and $4.50 for a 12"/shirt. This also applies to double 7" or double LPs. If your total is high I will feel uneasy sending records without the tracking so you may have to pay additional fee for the EMS service that provides tracking and delivery confirmation. In those instances please wait for me to mail you a separate invoice. Please email me for the EMS rates that apply to your country prior to bidding.

I will combine postage for multiple items and make sure to pack the records in enough cardboard to survive careless handling by the post office staff. I will also do my best to send your package ASAP but I have a day time job which means I will only be able to make it to the post office on average about once/twice a week. If you look at my star rating you will see that I've done well until now but please allow AT LEAST 2-3 weeks for the delivery before filing any any complaints.

Vinyl grading:

I do not believe in such thing as a mint used record. I am also not going to defy the meaning of simple words in English language like some people do when they say "good" and actually mean "rubbish". If I ever say "good", rest assured, it will actually mean "good". I feel strange that I even have to explain that but if you had bought more than 5 records in the past 10 years I am sure you know what I'm talking about. I will try my best to give fair grades so that you are not disappointed.

M : Brand new and still sealed (not an old record)
NM : Usually still sealed or new and unplayed but older and stored for some time
VG : Usually no problems at all. Just a used vinyl in very good condition. Small surface marks on vinyl, not affecting the play and small ringwear and/or handling marks for the sleeve.
G : Well loved. Usually plays fine but with some noise or limited pops for vinyl and bigger ringwear and/or handling marks for the sleeve. May have smaller seam split.
F : Bigger, more visible wear to the vinyl. Still listenable but with occassional skip here and there. For covers it will mean some damage, price sticker on the cover water marks, bigger ringwear, seam splits etc..
R : RUBBISH. Vinyl skips or is unplayable. Sleeve is torn or badly damaged.
