WAGNER: Tristan und Isolde

Very collectable six-disc set. First pressing HMV EMI ALP 1030,1031,1032,1033,1034 &1035 with first red and gold labels. The heavy thick vinyl is flat and glossy but shows signs of having been played. There are short scratches and surface to most sides but condition is well above average for this rare set. I rate it VG+. There are a few spindle marks to the EX/NM labels (Small scuff to label side two- see photograph.) The gatefold sleeves are in really excellent condition with slight grubbiness and a small tear to the top edge of disc one-- it is difficult to find these vulnerable sleeves better-preserved.
"Wilhelm Furtwängler's remains the Ur-Tristan set, the one by which all others are still measured - and rightly so. To this day no more succinct summing-up of its virtues has been written than that in the old Collins Record Guide contemporaneous with its first appearance: the authors wrote that, under Furtwängler, the work 'overwhelms the attentive listener anew with its tragic intensity, its musical logic, its pathos and its sheer sensuous beauty'".

These are part of a personal collection of 1950s,1960s and early 1970s Classical LPs ; most are in excellent or better condition; including several rarities, mainly Decca SXLs, EMI ASDs, Angel, and Mercury Living Presence Stereo: Furtwangler, Kertesz, Oistrakh, Beecham etc. I am happy to receive wants lists if there is something you are particularly looking for.

I grade according to Record Collector Magazine standards and I think you will like these recordings as much as I do; but if you don't, and you are not completely satisfied then everything is returnable.
