AWESOME 1ST PRESS GARROD & LOFTHOUSE FLIPBACK COVER! EARLIEST -1 -1 MATRIX ''1'' TO ''1'' MOTHERS UNBELEIVABLE EARLIEST EVER! RAREST EVER JKT TAX CODE!!
Here is another from my personal collection! I have decided to list this awesome 41 year old original which has absolutely stunning audio throughout! This album has been stored in a case for over 25 years or more, with the vinyl removed from the sleeve and cover for protection. This is how I have always stored my records!! This is very rare and scarce to ever find not just for its awesome condition but the fact that this is probably one of the earliest\certainly the 1st ever issue to be released in the UK and in my opinion the UK pressings of this album feature the best audio quality available in any format! The additional rarety is that this has barely ever been played more than a handful of times ever. I have played this vinyl through two times on a top system at very loud volume using a dedicated mono cartridge and this plays as new on my systems as good as it gets in my opinion!,, features the very rare J.K.T. Tax code stamped on side 1 (very rare to ever find) also ''1' to ''1' mother stampers means that this was pressed from the first or the earliest master! This rare collectable 1968 pressing is a true must to have for any avid 60s or Hollies collector!
The Hollies are an English pop group from Manchester formed in the early 1960s. Known for their distinctive vocal harmony style (which influenced many other groups) they became one of the leading British groups of the era, and they enjoyed considerable popularity in many other countries although they did not achieve major US chart success until 1966. Like the Rolling Stones and Steeleye Span, they are also notable as one of the few British pop groups of the 1960s that has never officially broken up and which continues to record and perform to the present!!
Member Graham Nash told Public Radio International (Bob Edwards show; February 15, 2009) that the group decided just prior to a performance to call themselves the Hollies because of their admiration for Buddy Holly!!
The original lineup included Allan Clarke as lead vocalist, Graham Nash as guitarist and vocalist, Vic Steele (real name Vic Farrell) on guitar, with Eric Haydock and Don Rathbone rounding out the group on bass and drums. Steele left in May 1963 shortly before they signed to Parlophone in 1963 as label-mates of the Beatles. The group released their first album in the United States in 1964 as part of the first wave of British Invasion releases. They are commonly associated with Manchester, as some of the original Hollies grew up in the city. Tony Hicks then Bobby Elliot who both played in a Nelson-based band, the Dolphins, joined the band in quick succession in 1963. Bernie Calvert who replaced Haydock in 1966 was also a Dolphin member!!
Released in 1967, The Hollies' Greatest Hits was the first "greatest hits" collection by The Hollies was initialy released on Imperial in the US. This was released a year before Parlophone issued its own hits album in England (This album featured the original Mono) and six years before Epic issued another album with this title. When Imperial was dissolved into United Artists Records in 1971, this album went out of print, prompting Epic (the group's then-current label) to issue its own "Greatest Hits" album two years later!! Please note! This album featured is the first and earliest possible issue available in the UK on the Parlophone label!! .
Interesting notes on the stereo version
Like many US albums by British artists issued in the mid-1960s, this featured a mix of true stereo and "fake stereo" tracks, even though true stereo masters existed for all the songs in this album, this is why the original mono version in my personal opinion is the only way to here this awesome album absolutely stunning top audio!!

The Vinyl
On initial inspection the vinyl looks absolutely stunning it is hard to see a blemish there are (no) scratches that I can see at all or any this that are audio sounding! Any marks that could possibly be seen in strong light would be light whispy sleeve removal \scuffs only and (non) audio sounding at all! It is quite obvious to me on inspection this vinyl has barely ever been played at all!.
The Audio Quality
I have played this vinyl at very loud volume on a top system prior to listing, using a dedicated mono cartridge! There is not much to say , but this played through near perfect on my system as good as it gets in my personal opinion! Cristal clear and vibrant throughout without the usual static ticks or background noise that is so common on 47 year old vinyls! There are (no) loud clicks or pops and certainly (no) skips or jumps! The Audio is graded as near mint! Perfect on my system and the only way to hear this album is the original mono in my opinion!
Please note I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd static tick\crackle here and there (not) consistant throughout the audio! Please remember that this is a genuine 44 year old vinyl that would have originally been played on a 44 year old system! (Although to be honest I never heard anything at all, graded at the top on all frequencies) very near perfect on my system!!!
Please note! This album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 25 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static crackle\ticks. A constant clean before each play is recomended! This will reduce any static and enhance the audio quality!
The Labels
These Feature the 1st issue Yellow\Black Parlophone labels in stunning condition! Feature ''Sold In The UK....'' text across the labels (only 1st press) J.K.T Tax Code is stamped on side 2 label (Very Very Rare to ever find) Only angled to the light can very very minimal spidering be seen this has barely been played in my opinion! Little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round!!
The Record Sleeve
This is the original EMI advertising serpier sleeve with (no) splits or tares very rare to find like this!
The Cover
This is the original 1st issue\1st press Garrod & Lofthouse laminated front flipback cover absolutely stunning condition throughout! The super glossy laminate has nor real creases worth to mention and there are you have to look for to notice the reare is truly exceptionaly clean and tidy, nice and square corners! This 47 year old original cover must grade at least excellent plus! Unbeleivably rare to ever find like this!
