Honey Cone was an American R&B and soul all-girl vocal group, who are best remembered for their Billboard #1 hit single, "Want Ads". They were the premier female group for Hot Wax Records, operated by Holland–Dozier–Holland after they had departed from Motown Records.

Honey Cone was formed by Carolyn Willis, Shelly Clark, and lead singer Edna Wright. Formed in 1969 and based in Los Angeles, they were the newly-created Hot Wax Records' first signing to that fledgling label. The trio had previous musical experience with Willis previously a member of The Girlfriends, Clark an ex-member of the Ikettes, and Wright a member of gospel group The Cogics. Wright and Willis were also "part-time" Blossoms. They had been singing together for a short while when they were spotted by Eddie Holland in 1969.

Honey Cone and Hot Wax's debut single, "While You're Out Looking for Sugar," peaked at #26 on Billboard's R&B chart, but the follow-up, "Girls, It Ain't Easy," reached #8 on the same listing. It was their third release "Want Ads", that proved to be their biggest success topping both the R&B and pop chart. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in May 1971.

The same year Honey Cone had another #1 R&B hit and #11 pop hit with "Stick-Up," which also sold in excess of one million units. Further chart success continued in 1972 with "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show" and "The Day I Found Myself". However all three of Honey Cone's releases in 1973 were not hits. The Hot Wax and Invictus labels then ran into financial problems, despite other hit records they had with Freda Payne, 100 Proof Aged in Soul, Laura Lee, and the Chairmen of the Board.

Honey Cone split before 1973 ended and the labels folded soon after under increasing debt. Wright went solo, releasing Oops! Here I Go Again (1976) on RCA, and Willis appeared as a featured vocalist on the Seals and Crofts hit "Get Closer."

Packaging :

I take great care during packaging and do each one personally. I use hand cut cardboard, which I get from a trucking company. (It's so thick that you will save it and use it again.) Each piece is 1/4 inch thick and together they are very stronge. I always remove the record from the picture sleeve and ship them inside a clear plastic record sleeve. All packages are marked in red "Handle With Care Fragile" Sticker on one side and "Do Not Bend" on other side.

Postage :

You have to pay for the postage.   This record will weigh 6 ounces when ready to ship. US winners can figure out your own postage costs for US First Class or Media Mail with tracking. I will send it through USPS and you will get an email with the tracking number. Overseas winners will get it sent by First Class Mail International. (Buyers from Brazil, France will assume all risks for shipping to your country.) I will send your record as soon as you pay. (same day if before 2 PM and next day if after 2 PM, Monday thru Friday) I will combine postage if you win more than one record. Please wait for my invoice for all of your winnings in one package. ANY EXTRA FEES lNCLUDING CUSTOM FEES WILL BE PAID BY BUYER

G "Good" Disc has lots of wear, and serious visual abrasions. It should play through without skipping (unless otherwise noted). Condition is generally rough, but is good enough to serve as a "filler" copy until something better comes along. Only the rarest of records will be listed in this condition.

All other defects, such as cut-out holes (CO), stickers and/or writing on the label (SOL / WOL) and warping (wrp) are noted as listed here.

U.S.: Paypal is preferred. Personal checks will have to clear before I ship the item(s). You may also contact me before the end of the auction about other options.

I am happy to ship internationally, however I will not change the value of the record. There are many reasons for this. First, I enjoy selling records and do not want to jeopardize that. Second, I include a receipt with the order and if customs were to examine the package, they would see the difference.
