RECORD CONDITION: SIDE ONE IS VG++/VG+. OCCASIONAL VERY MINOR POP IN EARLY PART OF FIRST SECOND CUTS. THEN EXCELLENT FOR REST OF SIDE.  SIDE TWO IS VG++. VERY MINOR SCRATCHES ON THIS SIDE, THAT DO NOT AFFECT PLAYBACK. COVER IS VG+. BACK COVER IS STAMPED "PREVIEW COPY" AND HAS TWO MARK SQUARES WERE STAMPS HAVE BEEN REMOVED. PREVIOUS OWNER "WHITED OUT" ORIGINAL OWNERS INFO AT BOTTOM OF BACKSIDE AND COLORED IN TOP LEFT CORNER OF FRONT. THESE REPAIRS ARE NOT UGLY, PLEASE SEE PHOTOS FOR DETAILS. ALL CORNERS AND SEAMS AND OUTER SEAM INTACT. MINOR WEAR AT CORNERS. VERY GOOD CONDITION FOR A 45 YEAR-PLUS ALBUM COVER. THIS WOULD BE OTHER DEALERS HIGHER GRADE, BUT I AM VERY CAREFUL ABOUT MY GRADING. PLAY GRADED AND LISTED CONSERVATIVELY. SOME VERY LIGHT SPINNEL MARKS. RECORD CLEANED USING A 16.5 VPI MACHINE. ORIGINAL BLUE NOTE INNER SLEEVE.

ITEM INFORMATION: Rated 4 stars LP by All Music Jazz. The review states, “On the surface, ‘Headin' South’ is another set of bluesy soul-jazz, but it actually finds the Horace Parlan trio stretching out a little. Adding conga player Ray Barretto to his usual rhythm section of bassist George Tucker and drummer Al Harewood, Parlan decides to take chances with his standard-heavy repertoire. ‘Summertime’ features some evocative bowing from Tucker, and the solo sections on ‘The Song Is Ended,’ ‘Prelude to a Kiss,’ and ‘My Mother's Eyes’ offer probing, intriguing tonal textures that make the selection of Ahmad Jamal's ‘Jim Loves Sue’ understandable. Barretto's ‘Congalegre’ is a fun, Latin-inflected number, and Parlan's ‘Headin' South’ is a strong, swinging blues, but the slow blues ‘Low Down’ is nearly undone by his incessant circular arpeggio, which lasts for over a minute. Still, that's not nearly enough to sink the record, which is another understated but solid effort from Horace Parlan.”

A great Blue Note LP and a worthy addition to a quality jazz record collection.

GRADING: Sealed LP’s are noted in their description. I grade by both visual inspection and play. Mint is not used. Near Mint is my highest grade and should play problem free; VG++ should play problem free or with noted shortcomings noted in write-up.  VG+ is listed with any shortcomings noted in write-up. My description will be accurate. All items guaranteed, but I do not refund shipping costs.

FREQUENTCY OF SHIPPING: I do try and ship as quickly as I can, but sometimes it can take a week or so to send items out, depending on how many orders I have. Note that media mail can take three weeks from when I receive payment.
