HORACE SILVER AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS, Deep Groove, RVG, Flat Rim, Vinyl Blue Note BLP 1518.
This the 1956 RVG-etched, Flat Rim, Deep Groove, Mono Vinyl of HORACE SILVER AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS on the Blue Note Records 767 Lexington Ave NYC labels of Blue Note BLP 1518. "Ear" or "P" in deadwax. Musicians include Silver, Kenny Dorham, Hank Mobley, Doug Watkins and Art Blakey.
Disc features light surface noise, crackles, pops and ticks to varying degrees of volume throughout both sides. But as with all Blue Note Lexington to New York USA pressings, the imperfections do not detract from this powerfully performed, engineered and pressed music. Instruments clean and full of tone, occasional distortion. Very Dynamic! Many hairline non-feelable marks on both sides. Three 1" feelable scratches on Side 1. Decent gloss, this disc looks much worse than it actually sounds. No Skips! Labels in reasonably good shape, see photos. Laminated Cover in good but worn condition. Five-inch split seam top spine; five-inch split top left seam. Paint worn off spine and seams. Lamination good. Corners worn. Back cover "767 Lexington Ave., New York 21" excellent condition.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
