Description
We are thrilled and honoured to be offering for sale a number of items from the late Stan Tracey's own personal collection on behalf of his son Clark Tracey. This includes many extremely rare albums, some purchased by Stan during his time in New York, plus test pressings and other gems collected over his lifetime as a musician and composer.
Extremely rare Horace Silver Quintet 10" Blue Note 5058. Released in 1955 on the blue & white deep groove label 767 Lexington Avenue address. RVG is etched into the deadwax with the "P" or ear symbol ( see photos)
The record has been ultrasonically cleaned and retains a good glossy sheen for the age but with visible scuffs and hairlines.There is a needle jam on Side 1, Track 1 where the first 10 seconds will not play. After this it plays through really well with typically vibrant mono sound and incredible dynamics for the age. On testing, we started play just after the run in grooves and it was fine. No such problem on Side 2 which plays through beautifully. We have graded VG.
The rigid cardboard sleeve is still sturdy. There is a 10cm 3.5in split to the bottom seam but otherwise the seam and spine are showing light wear but really not bad at all. The rear has some discolouration and staining and a small area of surface loss near the bottom but no writing or ugly tape repairs. Graded VG.
The record will be sent separated out in an archival outer sleeve to prevent transit splits.
