HOT MIX Led Zeppelin II RL ROBERT LUDWIG 1st U.S.Pressing 1969 on Atlantic records. Preswell pressing as indicated by the "PR" on the labels and in the runouts. RL and etched on both sides of the dead wax. SS etched in wax on side two. This is the legendary HOT MIX pressing famous for it's super bass lows and sizzling highs that are unique to first U.S. pressings. This copy is well used but very enjoyable despite the faults. Even chewed up copies of this record/pressing sound pretty great.
VINYL in G+ condition. I play graded the entire record that plays between G+ and VG. Several paper scuffs/hairlines on the surface that create background crackle and the occasional pop. Not many repeating clicks that I heard. There are a few jumps in places because of scratches that go along the grooves. "Whole Lotta Love", "What Is And What Will Never Be", "Heartbreaker", and "Ramble On" each have one or two jumps, but no skips fortunately.
COVER in VG+ condition, very nice and solid original matte finish gatefold. Small split starting on bottom seam in the middle where record started to come through. Slight yellowing/rubbing on white areas. Overall solid.

US 1st pressing (with the 1841 Broadway address on the labels), featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.On some copies the Sterling Sound credit, "SS", appears in both runouts following Ludwig's "RL", and on others the "SS" appears only in the Side Two runout. The "RL" will still appear in both runouts.
This sub should only be used for copies with "RL" in both runouts, as only these are the true "RL" pressings which command hundreds of dollars (albeit in Near Mint condition). Later transitional pressings which featuring "RL" on only one side and another engineer's work on the other should receive their own subs.
"PR" in label matrix denotes a Presswell pressing.
"LW" in runouts indicates Longwear Plating metal parts.
"AT" in runouts indicates Atlantic Studios mastering
"W" in runouts indicates that blank lacquers came from the company Audiodisc.
