JAMES P. JOHNSON and CLARENCE WILLIAMS were known as damn serious musicians, as proven by their many records and compositions. But here they show their lighter side, while still dispensing incredibly articulate and hot "Harlem Stride" piano: On "HOW COULD I BE BLUE?" and "I'VE FOUND A NEW BABY" Johnson and Williams become a tremendously funny Vaudeville act, with snappy repartee, and never lose a beat while playing! HOW did they do it??
The only dent in "truth in advertising" is that these two guys are NOT playing "Their Two Pianos," as stated on the label, but manage to compress their considerable bulk on one piano bench at one piano - Williams on the left, Johnson on the right. That's a fine way to use a Steinway!
This original 1930 "Race" Columbia 14502-D is in very nice E- condition - a little wear, a few scratches, but overall lovely sound.
