Description
HUMAN INSTINCT “The Hustler” LP NEAR MINT disc RARE NZ HEAVY PROG gangster theme
The Human Instinct – “The Hustler” LP (orig. New Zealand Zodiac STEREO ZLP 1051, lyric booklet + foldout poster)
Release date: March 1974.
On offer here is an ULTRA RARE original NEW ZEALAND issue of the fifth (and final) album by HUMAN INSTINCT, which included MAURICE GREER (drums & lead vocals) and guitarists JOHN DONOGHUE (DIZZY LIMITS, TIMBERJACK), GLENN MIKKELSON (alias for ZAINE GRIFF who played bass guitar on THE KINKS “Misfits” LP) and MARTIN HOPE (FOURMYULA).
“The Hustler” is an impressive concept album with a gangster theme split across two different decades - side 1 (1934) and side 2 (1974). Perhaps I have mellowed a bit over the years, but this has now become my favourite of their five LP’s. Although most of the songs are original, there are also two obscure cover versions included, FOREVER MORE’s “Last Breakfast” (Scottish group) and STAFFORD BRIDGE’s “Passing Lines” (Sydney group). I’ve included YouTube links to a couple of my favourite LP cuts below. Enjoy!
