Ha’ Pennys-Love Is Not The Same (Fersch FL 1110) VG++/M- one light scratch on side one that doesn’t affect the play. Comes with VG++ cover with average ring wear which is common to most copies due to all of the black ink on the F/C and B/C (see scans).
Cherry copy of stellar 1966 Andover MA Phillips Academy prep rock gem with all of the right moves. Fabulous flawless prep rock time capsule LP with great Stones/Animals/Yardbirds garage covers plus the top-shelf moody original title track “Love Is Not The Same.” One of the best albums in the genre … period!
Note: This was recorded at and pressed by Continental Recording in Framingham MA which is where the Rising Storm (who idolized the Ha’ Pennys) also recorded one year later.
Known as the band that preceded the Rising Storm as school rock group at Phillips Academy, the Ha'Pennys took a more garage/Stones/punk edged approach to their 1966 Lp, which is filled with raw 'now sounds' of 1966 fed through a charming basement lo-fi production, tilted with rave-up aspirations. Their self penned title track ("Love Is Not The Same") is one of the highlights with a sparse yet moody delivery that remains quite infectious. As well, they stamp their own formidable sound quite efficiently on garage greats by the Animals, Them, Beatles, Yardbirds, Rolling Stones & Byrds with reverb & tremolo guitar as lead instrument behind bass, rhythm guitar, drums & vocal accompaniment ... no other studio enhancements were used. If this were a 'Justice' records release it would be in the top five of that labels storied roster... (taken from esterdamin eBay description)
