Haciendo Punto en Otro Son is a Puerto Rican 'nueva trova' and folkloric music band founded on 1975 by musicians Silverio Pérez, Tony Croatto, Josy Latorre, Irvin García and Nano Cabrera. The original quintet debuted at 'La Tea' night club in Old San Juan, PR, offering daily concerts from October 30 to November 2, 1975. Their a new beat and rich music (combining Puerto Rican and South American sounds) with percussion, guitar, cuatro (Puerto Rican folk string instrument), flute, güiro, harmonious vocal arrangements combined with high social content lyrics (música de protesta) - became an instant favorite among students and working class. It later gains great popularity and became the most successful nueva trova band in Puerto Rico. Also had enjoyed popularity in Dominican republic, Cuba, Mexico, Unites States, and many South American countries. They had recorded twelve albums and two live concerts.
Through the past 50 years since its foundation, Haciendo Punto en Otro Son had been active (with several interruptions/hiatuses), some of the original musicians have left the group (and later rejoined) others have died (Tony Croato an Irving Garcia) and new members have come and enriched their music, but always maintaining their musical essence. Other members had been José Paché Cruz, Ivan Gonzalez Aulet, Moncho Díaz, José Vallejo, Jorge Arce, Ileana “Nana” Latorre, Nena Rivera, Cuqui Rodríguez, Pedro Guzmán, Rayda Cotto, José Vega, Millito Cruz, José "Chiqui" García and Alex Croatto.
Their most recent concert was on March 16, 2025, at the University of Puerto Rico’s Theater, performing Silverio Pérez, Josy Latorre, Nano Cabrera, Jose Vega, and Alex Croatto in front of a full house crowd.
