Description
Hen's teeth rare copy of the "Calling All Girls" debut EP by the seminal Half Japanese, which is a private pressing on the band's own 50 Skidillion Watts Records, recorded in August 1977, and released in November 1977 from Uniontown, Maryland, USA.
Privately pressed in tiny numbers, this is a first pressing, Cat. no.7084-18, with 7084-18A and 7084-18B in the run-offs, this has become a 'cult release' wanted by many.
Not really an 'EP', more of a 'mini-album', this record contains 9 tacks in total; side 1 has 4 tracks with a running time of 6 minutes, and side 2 has 5 tracks with a running time of 6 minutes and 18 seconds: this is first wave '77 American lo-fi punk rock at its best.
Not really a band either: for this release, Half Japanese were brothers David and Jed Fair (they played as a duo until around 1980, when other members were added).
Amongst their many fans was Kurt Cobain; Half Japanese opened for Nirvana in 1993, and when Cobain fell-off the perch, he was supposedly wearing a Half Japanese t-shirt.
The vinyl is in near mint condition; it has been played, but has also been well looked-after, so there is not a mark to be seen (or heard) on the vinyl, so graded as excellent ++/NM.
Sleeve (black on creamy coloured card) is a double gatefold, that opens to reveal the lyrics and a collage on the inside, with photos of the 'band' and another collage on the outside. Slight creasing to upper edge, and a 4mm tear to upper centre panel, plus sticker residue to upper right on the front, and a gold name sticker to lower centre panel on the rear, so sleeve graded as very good+. (NB dark area to the top of pic 1 is shadow as it was sunny when pic taken, and looks slightly 'bleached' for the same reason)
Record is housed in an off-white card sleeve which is in near excellent condition, and this copy also comes with a 4 paragraph review from time of release. (slightly crumpled but intact!)
A rare opportunity to acquire an extremely rare and influential slice of original 1977 KBD lo-fi unruly DIY privately pressed punk rock in near mint condition. A must for any serious collectors, this rarely turns-up for sale, and never in this condition.
