Description
Both sides play great considering the rarity of this first pressing.
Side one plays excellent, with some light, low-level surface crackle
that's only audible at the intros, outros and between tracks.
It's slightly noticeable during a "quiet" section or intro, but not
audible on most of this side since the music is uptempo and sonically "busy".
Side two starts off with some briefly louder crackle due to a quarter inch
of scuffing that starts at the edge of the record.
As with side one, there's unobtrusive surface crackle, it's just
a bit more noticeable, overall, on this side, especially on the
quieter second track "I SEE YOUR FACE BEFORE ME",
otherwise it's still mostly noticeable at the intros, outros,
or between tracks, just slightly louder than on side one.
On both sides the highs are crisp and the bass is tight,
and neither side has any loud pops or clicks or skips.
VAN GELDER is machine stamped in the dead-wax and
we also posted a close up shot of the a-side dead-wax
inscription, which is: BNLP-4209.A-1
This first pressing did NOT have the "Plastylite P" symbol,
sometimes referred to as the "Ear symbol". The jacket is VG.
The front laminate is still thick but has light shelf-wear visible
on the bottom, top, and there's a half inch patch of visible wear
in the middle, on the second letter P in "dippin'".
The previous owner's name is (also) hand written in
ball-point pen on top, to the left of the DAY-GLO sticker that
reads "THIS RECORD PLAYS BOTH STEREO and HI-FI".
The rear laminate has light yellowing overall, with a bit more
at the edges. None of the ink is worn, none if the lamination is ripped,
but there's some minor soiling. The bottom seam is split 4 inches
from the lower right opening edge, and is worn and frayed
near the spine, and only the final inch is "split".
Other than corner wear and 3 dings, the spine is intact.
On the top seam there's one inch of splitting and fraying
near the spine, a few dings and worn spots in the middle,
and it's split 4 inches toward the opening edge,
as with the bottom, see the 2 photos.

MOST of the Blue Note and Prestige records from this era
were eventually pressed at the long defunct PLASTYLITE
vinyl record pressing plant that was located in North Plainfield,
New Jersey. Plastylite is most notably known for pressing
almost ALL of the albums for Blue Note until 1966 when
Alfred Lion sold Blue Note to Liberty.
(They also pressed records for
Prestige, Folkways Records and United Artists Records.
Records from Plastylite can be identified by a cursive "P"
stamped into the deadwax.
The "P" stamp is also known to collectors as the "ear" mark.)
