Description
Up for auction is the venerable Blue Note LP 4031, Hank Mobley's "Soul Station", featuring Mobley on tenor sax, Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass;, and Art Blakey on drums.Track listing is as follows: Side One: 1) Remember, 2) This I Dig of You, 3) Dig Dis and Side Two: 1) Split Feelin’s, 2) Soul Station, 3) If I Should Lose You
Released in October of 1960, Soul Station features Mobley’s former boss, Art Blakey, and future Miles Davis Quintet bandmates Wynton Kelly and Paul Chambers. Mobley’s original “This I Dig of You” has taken its place among “Remember” and “If I Should Lose You” as a standard in the jazz repertoire - a testament to the enduring influence of this fine album.
SLEEVE: front cover NM-, back cover VG+ with some staining and a section peeling off toward the bottom. Otherwise color is great, cover is glossy, no seam splits, no ringwear. An acquisition date of "January 1961" written in blue pen near top above the personnel listing.
RECORD: EX, with minor scuffing on both sides from coming in and out of the sleeve. Deep grooves on both sides, Plastylite "ear" in the dead wax, 47 West 63rd NYC address on both sides
I am a university professor of music here in the US who inherited this and other records (Blue Note, Norgran, Impulse!, Columbia, Prestige, Fantasy, Riverside, etc.) from a collector and former radio DJ a few years back. I am looking to sell off some of these records to collectors/audiophiles who can get more enjoyment out of them than I can.
