Description

SOUL STATION - HANK MOBLEY Original 1st Pressing in Mono (USA) Blue Note BLP 4031 Featuring Wynton Kelly (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), Art Blakey (drums) Released in 1960    Engineered by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder
The runout contains the "RVG" stamp, the etched Plastylite "P" - more popularly known as the ear - and the matrices BN-LP 4031-A on side 1 and BN-LP4031-B on side 2.  The cover is made of a thick cardboard and laminated.  The Blue Note Records Inc. address on the labels on both side 1 and 2 is 47 West 63rd NYC.  The address on the back of the cover is 43 West 61st St., New York 23.  The labels contain the deep grooves.
The cover has been graded a strong VG+ using the Goldmine grading system.  The print on the spine is very clean.  A few of the black areas on the laminate have been worn away but these sections remain smooth.  The biggest area like this is 1/4" x 1/8" and shows above the bell of the saxophone; the other areas are very small, but are mentioned for accuracy.  There is no ring wear present.  The edges are largely very clean except for the slightest of fraying in the corners.  There is a break in the seam from wear on the bottom right near the opening which measures 1/2", and only 1/16" of this is split.  There is an address label in the upper right of the back of the cover that measures 1 5/8" x 3/8".  490 is written faintly in pencil in the upper left of the back cover.  There is slight fraying on the label around the hole on both sides.  Finally, there is some slight discoloration present.
The record has been both visually and aurally graded as VG+ to EX.  Although there are some light scuff marks and a few hairline scratches, the sound stays very vibrant and clean throughout.  Even during the quietest sections - for example, between songs and during bass solos - you will hear little in the way of pops - and none of these will be loud enough to detract from a most gratifying listening experience.  There are no skips throughout.
The inner sleeve will be new.
Given the importance of this record, it will be packed to withstand the rigors of any shipping environment.  It will be removed from the cover in its inner sleeve and placed with the cover in a plastic outer sleeve.  It will then be placed between two double-walled corrugate pads and sufficiently bubble wrapped before being placed in a shipping box.  A signature will be required upon delivery.
Thank you for looking and best of luck if bidding!
