Description

Hank Mobley on Blue Note 4273.

 

This is the rare Van Gelder-stamped mono pressing of Hank Mobley “Hi Voltage” on the Liberty labels of Blue Note 4273.  The playing surface is as new, with a high luster; perhaps played once.  The coated L.A., Calif. cover shows moderate ring wear and shelf wear; light foxing at the top of the back slick; ¼” wear at the top left corner; ¼” on the bottom seam, at the spine and opening. Liberty issued seventeen promo-only mono pressings to radio stations that had not yet converted to stereo transmission, placing a “MONO” sticker over “stereo” on the front.  Illustrated inner sleeve is included.

 

Personnel include Blue Mitchell, Jackie McLean, John Hicks, Bob Cranshaw, and Billy Higgins.
