Sorry that all the other listings of this are so uninformative. I am a fellow jazz fan so here's the low down on it .Harold Land & Kenny Dorham only ever made 2 lps together, and Kenny was in poor form on the Eastward ho! outing. Here with altoist Herb Geller on this 1957 date entitled Fire In The West we get the closest to high energy Hard bop on the West coast outside of the Rollins Brown dates for Mercury/Emarcy. That triple threat front line is backed up by Lou Levy, Lawrence Marable and Ray Brown. A jazz wise review of a Cd issue stated:The earlier 1957 album was Geller's date and he is probably the strongest soloist on the seven cuts which include Bud Powell's ‘The Fruit’, some above average Geller originals (‘Marable Eyes’ is a good one) and a rather odd-sounding ensemble arrangement of Fats Waller's ‘Jitterbug Waltz’, which eventually leads into some fine 4/4 solos. Levy, Brown and Marable here are one of the hardest-swinging sections ever on a West Coast date of the period. This is a low plays owned from new by me Pristine near mint 1986 authorised Fresh Sound from mastertapes reissue, undamaged sleeve also, with lovely pinch rollered spine attention to detail. This is already in a new heavy poly outer with antistatic inners added with outer sleeve and records all layered behind each other to prevent splits.
