Harold McNair - The Fance (B&C Records, 1970 - UK 1st pressing)
A superb British jazz 'super group' line-up recorded this stellar 1970 album with flute/sax genius Harold McNair, and it has to be one of the standout sets of material he ever recorded.
Joined by Keith Tippett / Alan Branscombe (piano), Steve Winwood (organ - uncredited), Colin Green (guitar), Rich Grech (electric bass), Danny Thompson (double bass), Terry Cox on drums and Tony Carr (percussion), the band swing, groove and solo with real heart and soul.
This copy comes with the original little pink pocket fixed to the front cover, but the balloon has long since departed. The gatefold sleeve has some minor surface tears due to old price labels, and has a little edge, spine and ring wear plus a name written in biro on the back. It grades Very Good.
The vinyl, thankfully, plays consistently Excellent and the audio is really really top notch. There are a few hairlines and marks if you look closely but nothing that causes any issues. The black and green B&C labels are also Excellent.
It comes with a plain white inner sleeve in excellent shape and a previous owner's name stamped front and back in an arrow shape, for some reason. I will also put the vinyl in a shaped anti-static inner for extra protection.
Rare and collectable British jazz which is only going to increase in value, as copies are very scarce these days.
