Description
For sale is a double album vinyl set by Harry Belafonte titled "Belafonte At Carnegie Hall", originally released in 1959 by RCA Victor Records with a gate-fold presentation. In the dead wax between the labels and the last tracks are the matrix numbers 1-S/1-S/1-S/1-S, followed by an upper case "I", indicating that rhe first stampers were used to make these records at RCA Records' pressing plant located in Indianapolis, Indiana. These are hallmarks of state-of-the-art engineering, sought after by collectors and music lovers for their superior sound quality. I bought this record set used, professionally cleaned them on my VPI HW-17 machine and immediately put the two records into archival inner sleeves. This protects the integrity of the vinyl and any original inner sleeve(s) or insert(s) that may have come with the release. There are no original inner sleeves with this listing. The laminated cover, which still has shiny, vivid colors, is graded as Excellent because of some minor corner blunts and faint ring wear. The spine is graded as Near Mint. The vinyl is visually graded as Near Mint (for Sides 1, 2 and 3) with surfaces that are still shiny and bright, without any surface scratches, smudges or spindle marks on the labels. Side Four, however, has a faint surface scratch across the last half of "Matilda" and there are spindle marks on the label, all of which did not affect playback. I'm visually grading Side Four as Excellent. I'm play grading all of the records as Near Mint, with Side Four as Near Mint Minus, without any surface noise from start to finish. They played all the way through without any skips but there was a pop on Side Two and two pops on Side Four. It's been played only on Audiophile equipment since I've owned it and still has a lot of life yet. This record has an incredible wide soundstage with pin-point imaging of Harry's voice and the musical instruments, even when played on a stereo system. This is the best copy of this hard to find record that I have ever seen or heard and you would be hard pressed to find another like this one. This would make a great addition to anyone's collection. Over the years I've used Dust Bugs, Disc Washers and rner blunts, ring wear, edge rubs with a small 1/2" tear on the bottom of the left hand cornerhave finally invested in a professional VPI record cleaning machine. Now that I'm retiring, I'm selling my very esoteric collection. I'm not a professional grader of records, but will use record guides, as well as my personal experiences as a basis of my grading all records. Since grading is subjective, I will be conservative.
