Description
Harry Partch - "U.S. Highball" (Case 5 Records, Issue #6, 1958)
A VG/VG 1958 10" original. Partch composition, Partch recording under Jack McKenzie's direction with Dick Borden, Merving Britton, Michael Colgrass, Elizabeth Gentry, Danlee Mitchell, David Reid, and Melvin Wildberger, with Thomas Coleman as "Mac". Original foldover mailing sleeve with an ownership label to upper right of the front and a smudged address to the lower right of the rear - this last, if I'm not mistaken, being the return address for the label and the handwriting Partch's own. Labels bear the catalogue numbers J8OL-7777 and J8OL-7778. The dead wax is stamped J8OL 7777 - 1 and J8OL 7778 1A. A VG/VG copy. The labels are bright, the spindle holes clean and undamaged, faint spindle swipe visible around the holes when viewed from very close range. The record is flat. The sides are glossy but both have signs of paper scuff, light needle mark, and a few hairlines. Play is quite good, though there is audible (but not oppressive) static to both sides. 4 muted pops about halfway through side 1. An unfortunate repeater groove toward the end of side 2. I've mentioned the ownership label and smudged address on the sleeve. There is also light soiling from handling and some ring shadow. There is a very small chip to the left edge but the edges otherwise are strong and solid. The flap has a clean tear for about 1/3rd of its length but is holding together quite nicely despite this.
