Description
This is the 3 album set, issued by Columbia in the early 1970's. Records are in near excellent shape, except for a noticeable surface scuff which doesn't affect play on side 4. The outer box is somewhat tattered, with a few pieces of (notorious) cellophane tape on the top. The 3rd album - which I consider invaluable to understanding Mr. Partch's music - consists of samplings of each instrument by the composer. I had the great fortune to several times hear these instruments in concert in NYC (after Harry's death) when they were housed at Montclair State College. Truly an unforgettable experience to see and hear them in person. Very much like Gamelan music, because of the subtleties of intonation (50+ tones to our usual 12) and overtones, the music is quite difficult to sonically capture, even with "modern" digital equipment. As for Partch's compositions, this is his best known, although musically I prefer much of his earlier work. DELUSION was not only composed, but also choreographed and costumed by Mr. Partch. R.I.P.
