This prolific singer-songwriter's life was wild. So was his material. A one-of-a-kind rockabilly lunatic, Adkins led an unusual
life and created ultra-crude rock & roll tunes. A frantic one-man band, he banged out his music in complete obscurity until he was discovered in the 1980s and became a cult favorite. Born in 1937, Adkins grew up poor in a ramshackle, three-room shack in West Virginia. He developed a passion for music as a boy, listening to the likes of Hank Williams on the family's radio. While his roots were in country music, Adkins soon tackled rock & roll that had become so popular in the 1950s. He even put together a crude home-recording setup and began recording his own rockabilly songs to tape.
