Hawkwind-In Search Of Space (1972; UAS-5567) LP Research Craft Pressing. The 2nd album by Hawkwind, released in the UK 8th October 1971. Recording began briefly at Air Studios [Master Of The Universe], then moved to Olympic Studios. The innovative sleeve design was by Barney Bubbles [Colin Fulcher].

Research Craftpressing as evident by the 2.875" diameter, slightly chamfered, press ring; and absence of any other pressing plant ID (United Artist owned Research Craft at this time) This copy has the 1972 label attributes, in contrast with the mid 70s repress ofX In Search Of Space(no next to the UNITED ARTISTS logo, nor "ALL RIGHTS RESERVED" in the rim text).

The cover features an interlocking zig-zag cut, center-opening triptych fold-out sleeve, that folds out into a "T" configuration with flyout pages on inner center panel that contain the record. When opened out, the die-cut sleeve forms a bird shape with outstretched wings - rather like a hawk. When folded, the die-cuts interlock at the front center, the shapes and print forming an 'X', per the initial character of the title. The folded form thus creates an open-top wallet for the disc. Band photos, artwork, credits and lyrics on the inside.

Comes with a custom, solid navy blue inner sleeve, with the album catalog number printed in the lower right corner.

Issued with "The Hawkwind Log", a 24-page booklet with photos, illustrations and text exploring themes such as extra-terrestrial intelligence, astrology and astronomy, ecology, science, occultism and mysticism, religion and philosophy.

∆ Some copies of 'The Log' have typos on the back page. The word "album" is spelled wrong, and the catalog number is incorrect (5557 is the catalog number for Canned Heat - Historical Figures And Ancient Heads). "FROM THE HAWKWIND ALBUMN -- IN SEARCH OF SPACE UAS 5557"

∆ The copy of 'The Log' for this album has those typos. Produced at Olympic Studios, Barnes. Track one side two first recorded at Air Studios. 1971 United Artists Music Ltd. London, England.

ATTN: All records I list are from my personal archive. They have been helved upright in a clean, cool dry environment. Attempts to capture a clear photo of the record condition has proved fruitless. Because of this, I'm grading on the low end to assure the buyer the best accurate description for the most enjoyable listening experience.

*Tri-fold album cover inside/out is in VG+ condition with some small creases on all sides and light edge wear except top has no creases but for one on the left side back. There is one tiny crease on insert tab with very slight wear bottom of tab. There are four small creases on lower right side of the left fold-out. Top front right has a half dollar size light residual grey coloured surface stain. Inside bottom portion has a light surface discoloration silhouette of 'The Log' booklet. Record is in VG+ condition with some light superficial scuffing on both sides and three tiny scratches across Track 3 Side 2. Sound quality is excellent. Playback is flawless. Labels are in VG+ condition with some very light superficial spindle marks. Original blue paper inner sleeve is in VG+ condition with two small middle seam separations on bottom and one edge.
