Aardvarks – “I Don’t Need You” b/w “I Don’t Believe” (Fenton 2090). According to the boxset, “Scream Loud: The Fenton Story”, the Aardvarks formed in Muskegon, Michigan in 1964 and originally consisted of high school grad Darrell Dingler (vocals/bass), and younger members John Carter (head guitar), Rick Spratt (rhythm guitar), and Garey Walker (drums). After hioning their sound at local venues they cut Dingler’s “I’m Higher Than I’m Down” / “That’s Your way” at Great Lakes Recording studio. Dave Kalmbacj balked at putting the disc out on the Fenton label so the band used a canity imprint they called “Vark”. Released in May of 1966, the record sold well locally, and several months later they returned to Sparta with new members Rick Kirth on Rhythm (replacing Spratt) and Terry Potts on bass, which freed Dingler to focus on his vocals. They recorded a few originals from which Kalmbacj selected “I Don’t Believe” and “I Don’t Need You” for release on Fenton, but sales were not as strong. Record is in M- condition (it appears the first time a needle touched the vinyl was to make the cuts for this auction). Postage will be paid by purchaser.
