~~ Heavy Metal is a 1981 Canadian-American adult animated sci-fi-fantasy film directed by Gerald Potterton and produced by Ivan Reitman and Leonard Mogel, who also was the publisher of Heavy Metal magazine, the basis for the film. The screenplay was written by Daniel Goldberg and Len Blum.

The film is an anthology of various science fiction and fantasy stories adapted from Heavy Metal magazine and original stories in the same spirit. Like the magazine, the film features a great deal of graphic violence, sexuality, and nudity.  And ofcourse the film was suported with a kickass soundtrack !!

It has become a pretty Cult soundtrack and i agree. It is one of the best collections of rock ever put together for the soundtrack to a film (and boy what a film).
You should own it, especially for Don Felder track Riding on Heavy Metal, which I heard on South Park 'Cheesing episode!  Brilliant Guitar, exceptionally talented.
This collection has something for all, from the silky voice of - Stevie Nicks (Blue Lamp) to the gravelly Dan McCaffty of Nazareth (Crazy).
If a tune written by one of the best fantasy writers since J.R.R Tolkien for the very best rock band in the known universe (Veteran Of The Psychic Wars - Blue Oyster Cult) is not enough for you .......... then buy the bloody film as well.
