This handsome LP – rare in stereo – from Ducretet Thomson (SCC 509, French pressing, brown label, stereo, glossy laminated flipback jacket) features Volume IX in the label’s “Concerts Colonne · Pierre Dervaux” edition, this installment featuring “live” performances of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor Op. 11 and Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major, with pianist Eric Heidsieck the brilliant soloist.

Both works were recorded in the rich acoustics of the Salle Wagram, Paris, in November 1961 and sound absolutely superb here.

Dervaux and l’Orchestre de l’Association des Concerts Colonne provided brilliant support, vital and beautifully shaded. Both performances are imbued with a tremendous sense of occasion and Heidsieck’s acounts deserve to be much better known, like this artist’s entire discography.

There are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Bertrand Ott, printed in French only. The striking cover art / design is credited to Maurice Tapiero.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor wear at corners and two small pieces of tape (yellow and red) to the lower-left corner. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
