This superb and still-sealed Heifetz LP – which includes a 7” bonus EP of the artist’s spoken reminiscences – from RCA (LSC-3205, US pressing, label iteration unknown – presumably Red Seal label, stereo) entitled “Heifetz on Television” features the legendary Russian virtuoso in one of his last public appearances, a “live” recital presented on NBC TV as part of the Bell System Family Theater – broadcast on 15 September 1970.

Although NBC is given prime billing, the performances were actually captured at ORTF Studio 102 in Paris.

Included with this LP is a 7” EP that carries the following caption: “The remarks on this record were made by Mr. Heifetz during conversation under the California sun with Kirk Browning, Director of the Television Special.” It makes for a fascinating addendum to this remarkable recital.

Sergei Prokofiev (arr. Jascha Heifetz): March, from The Love for Three Oranges

Claude Debussy (arr. Arthur Hartmann): La fille aux cheveux de lin, No. 8 from 12 Preludes for Piano Book I

George Gershwin (arr. Jascha Heifetz): It Ain’t Necessarily So, from Porgy and Bess

*Note: Heifetz did play an abridged version of the Scottish Fantasy during the televised concert; for this album, however, RCA chose to include his earlier (and complete) studio account with Sargent, made at London’s Walthamstow Assembly Hall in May 1961 (LSC-2603).

Paul Louis was the producer of the NBC TV broadcast, Kirk Browning the Director, John Pfeiffer the Audio Director, and Lester Shurr the Production Consultant.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really there are no flaws to speak of and the album appears virtually as new – overall, an outstanding collector’s copy.

The condition of the LP is MINT. This is a still-sealed, unplayed copy – the ideal collector's copy.
