"The Pink Panther Theme" è una composizione strumentale realizzata da Henry Mancini scritta come tema per il film del 1963 La Pantera Rosa "The Pink Panther" e successivamente nominato all'Oscat per il 1964 come migliore colonna sonora. Il cartone animato, personaggio omonimo, creato per i titoli di testa del film di David DePatie e Friz Freleng è stata animata in tempo per la melodia. L'assolo di sassofono tenore è stato interpretato da Plas Johnson. "The Pink Panther Theme" is an instrumental composition by Henry Mancini written as the theme for the 1963 film The Pink Panther and subsequently nominated for the 1964 Academy Award for Best Original Score. The eponymous cartoon character created for the film's opening credits by David DePatie and Friz Freleng was animated in time to the tune. The tenor saxophone solo was played by Plas Johnson. The tune was included on the film's soundtrack album and issued as a single (in the United States) in 1964; the single reached the Top 10 on the U.S. Billboard adult contemporary chart and won three Grammy Awards.

Henry Mancini, nome d'arte di Enrico Nicola Mancini (Cleveland, Ohio, USA, 16 Aprile 1924 – Los Angeles, California, USA, 14 Giugno 1994) è stato un compositore, direttore d'orchestra e arrangiatore statunitense, viene ricordato soprattutto per le sue colonne sonore di film e televisione. Spesso citato come uno dei più grandi compositori della storia del cinema, ha vinto quattro Oscar, un Golden Globe, e venti Grammy Awards, oltre a un postumo Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award nel 1995.

Le sue opere più note sono il tema di linguaggio-jazz per la serie dei film della Pantera Rosa ("The Pink Panther Theme"), il suo "Moon River" di Colazione da Tiffany "Breakfast at Tiffany's", e il tema per la serie televisiva Peter Gunn. Enrico Nicola "Henry" Mancini (Cleveland, Ohio, USA,April 16, 1924 – Los Angeles, California, USA,June 14, 1994) was an American composer, conductor and arranger, who is best remembered for his film and television scores. Often cited as one of the greatest composers in the history of film,he won four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and twenty Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995. His best known works include the jazz-idiom theme to The Pink Panther film series ("The Pink Panther Theme"), his "Moon River" to Breakfast at Tiffany's, and the theme to the Peter Gunn television series. The Peter Gunn theme won the first Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Mancini also had a long collaboration on film scores with the film director Blake Edwards.

Soundtrack album

The soundtrack album was released on RCA Victor, and consisted of music written by Henry Mancini, performed by his orchestra, and featured in the film. In 2001, the soundtrack album was awarded a Grammy Hall of Fame Award. In 2005, the score was listed at #20 on AFI's 100 Years of Film Scores.
