Here I have for sale the US import of the Original Film Soundtrack LP to the classic Henry Mancini-Blake Edwards movie collaboration, 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' (1961).

Condition (refer also to notes at bottom):
Vinyl – F-G. Very clean on visual inspection. One or two light hairline surface scuffs on each side. Played just pre-listing and there is heavy surface noise through first track on each side. The surface noise lessens throughout the other cues on each side.
Cover – F-G. Thick card stock. Discolouration/staining on the top edge of the front and reverse. Colours are bright on front with light other wear. Red sticker is clean and intact. Medium edge and corner damage. Aperture shows light wear. Reverse has slight mottling and there is a white circular sticker with ’87’ in the top right corner. Overall, intact.
Sleeve – VG. Original RCV Victor. ‘The New Sound America Loves Best….’ wording in blue on each side. Yellowed with some slight creasing and folds. Intact.

Review:
This soundtrack to the movie adaptation of Truman Capote's novel Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of Henry Mancini's best.

The pleasing blend of pop (the perennial "Moonriver") and swing stays fresh over the album's 12 tracks and shows off Mancini's considerable writing and arranging skills. The cuts range from the layered, big-band mambo "Something for Cat" to the transcendently smooth lounge number "Sally's Tomato" with some vaudeville moments coming via "Mr. Yunioshi" (check out that banjo eating up the faux Japanese scales) and "Hub Caps and Tail Lights" (sounds like the "Adams Family Theme").

Mancini keeps the lounge/easy listening mood from collapsing in on itself with many fine jazz solos, a driving rhythm section, and his expert (yet pleasantly cheesy) handling of the liquid-toned chorus parts. He also strikes a nice balance here between his crime-jazz backdrops for the Peter Gunn TV show and Touch of Evil and the later, more streamlined soundtracks for The Pink Panther and Charade.

Through Breakfast at Tiffany's solid programme, Macnini makes it clear that he isn't just a peddler of muzak but a fine composer.
