This beautiful and rare LP from Odeon (XOC 130, French pressing, orange/brown label, mono – NO stereo edition exists) features Henryk Szeryng’s pathfinding recording of Manuel Ponce’s Violin Concerto, coupled to an equally dazzling account of Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor Op. 47, both recorded with conductor Ernest Bour and l’Association Artistique des Concerts Colonne in Paris circa 1951. If Szeryng had left us nothing else, these recordings would have ensured his place in his history.For all those who treasure the art of the violin, this LP will prove richly rewarding – for here is masterly playing by any measure – stunning!
