Description
Here's a much sought-after LP box set featuring Henryk Szeryng playing all of Bach's sonatas and partitas for unaccompanied violin. This is the early Deutsche Grammophon Gessellschaft Stereo pressing (139270/272). The original insert is included in Very Good condition with some library markings. All labels have full tulips around the rims. Features cloth-bound box.
This is a former library copy, but it plays through pretty nicely.
Condition - The box has been taped at all edges and it has a sticker on front as well as stickers inside. The box grades at VG. The records appear to have been played to different degrees. The records have some shine, with all sides showing at least light marks from use. Each label has a sticker or a stamp or both. Most sides grade at about VG+ by sight. Each record has a light warp, but that did not seem to impact sound on my system. For the most part, the records played as nicely or better than they looked. All the sides played through with some varying levels of background noise. Here are some more details:
Side 1 - Vinyl is VG+ by sight, with some light marks. There is light noise here and there, but the listening grade on this is VG+ to VG++.
Side 2- Vinyl is VG+ by sight, with some light marks. There is light noise here and there, but the listening grade on this is VG+ to VG++.
Side 3 - This side is generally shiny, but it does have a longer mark that leads to light ticking on tracks one and two for a couple minutes. This looks VG+ by sight, and plays about the same.
Side 4 - This looks pretty nice with light signs of use, but it has light persistent static throughout. Grades at VG+ by sight and sounds about the same.
Side 5 -Looks pretty nice, but has ight persistent static throughout that diminished a bit as the side progressed. Grades at VG+ by sight. Plays about VG+ as well.
Side 6 - Looks pretty nice with light wear, but plays with persistent light static. Looks VG+, sound about the same, maybe a little worse.
Overall, I found this to be a decent listening copy of this classic. The records clearly have some issues, and there was noise at varying levels throughout, but the noise never overpowered the music.
Regarding shipping - I ship quickly using new professional grade materials.
Regarding grading - I try to grade by Goldmine standards. I do not use the grade Mint on unsealed opened records. The highest grade I give to unsealed records is Near Mint. Grading here is strictly by sight.
