Description
A programme produced for Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass for a concert given at The Royal Albert Hall on 7th October 1966. Two pages are dedicated to 'How it all began', which tracks his meteoric rise from a garage in 1962 to The Royal Albert Hall four years later. The centre double page spread lists the songs 'he will probably select' during the concert (The Girl From Ipanema coming in second to South Of The Border). Various photos are complimented by bios of drummer, Nick Ceroli; Tonni Kalash on trumpet; Bob Edmondson on Trombone; Pat Senatore on electric bass guitar and other members of Tijuanan Brass. Supporting the aforementioned 'Headliners' were Danny Wells and Rog Whittaker, both of whom also have featured bios - one reads very like that of folk guitarist and '70's T.V. whistler, Roger Whittaker. Could this have been his first major gig? Was he born in Kenya? Did he arrive in the UK in 1959? Does anybody care? Is anyone reading this?
Anyway this is a fascinating and, doubtless rare, piece of memorabilia. If I've got to list this under easy listening then so be it but Herb Alpert deserves much more than that and I hope his many fans bid frenzidly to secure this historic item. The condition is pretty good. No, damn fine, in truth, save for the fact that the progamme must have been folded in half, to fit into a pocket and was later pressed out under what I suspect was the weight of a vast amount of other programmes over the years. He still looks damn fine on the cover (picture below).
