*  Liberty operated Blue Note from 1966-1970. Original of this LP was released in 1966, and printed twice more in that year.  Three years later came this release followed by one using same catalog reference in 1970.  One can tell by the weight of this release that it is not from 1966, but 1969.

Vinyl graded VG+ = Excellent
Vinyl is mostly clean.  
There is hairline on Side 2.  A few minutes into the first  song on Side B (Survival of The Fittest) one can hear a  slight 'tick'.  Plays quietly between tracks, and maximum  1-2 minutes very, very slight surface noise on other tracks.   Plays like a Near Mint or Mint Minus record 
FYI this was part of private collection owned by one individual from 1969 to date.
Sleeve Graded VG-.  
The single flaw is split seam at top edge (please see photo).   There is edge wear on bottom and some ring wear, but would  still call VG if not for split. The label is in excellent condition.   The spine is intact, and the printing of album title is legible.

Album Review
Less overtly adventurous than its predecessor, Empyrean Isles, Maiden Voyage nevertheless findsHerbie Hancock at a creative peak. In fact, it's arguably his finest record of the '60s, reaching a perfect balance between accessible, lyrical jazz and chance-taking hard bop. By this point, the pianist had been with Miles Davis for two years, and it's clear that Miles' subdued yet challenging modal experiments had been fully integrated by Hancock. Not only that, but through Davis, Hancock became part of the exceptional rhythm section of bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams, who are both featured on Maiden Voyage, along with trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and tenor saxophonist George Coleman. The quintet plays a selection of five Hancock originals, many of which are simply superb showcases for the group's provocative, unpredictable solos, tonal textures, and harmonies. While the quintet takes risks, the music is lovely and accessible, thanks to Hancock's understated, melodic compositions and the tasteful group interplay. All of the elements blend together to make Maiden Voyage a shimmering, beautiful album that captures Hancock at his finest as a leader, soloist, and composer.  AllMusic
