Description
For Sale:- This is a piece of kit that has been hanging around a while.
It purports to be a His Masters Voice antique gramophone record player.
However, the HMV plaque on the front is offset and the whole ensemblé appears to be a mix of antique and mid 20th Century modern.
I suspect the inner workings are original and the whole box is a reproduction.
The Horn apparatus looks original too.
I have to warn any buyer that the box is in a rather precarious condition, the revolving record platter has been lifted open a few times and the box has suffered as a consequence. You can see that the wood surface at the rear has a crack in it.
The needle pickup stylus works beautifully, the stylus rubs on the red baize and the scratching noise is amplified out the horn very well.
There is a wind-up handle with it but have not attempted to wind it up.
I therefore give No guarantee as to the provenance of this item.
However, it does look rather classy in it's own way as an objet d'art and it would probably stand as a proper restoration project.
I acquired this item when a tenant departed leaving a load of surplus stuff and he never returned.
